# 2022 Tongyeong Trienale Pre-exhibition

구름이 내려오면 섬은 곧 산봉우리가 되고 흐릿한 연무가 사라지면 섬은 다시 바다 위에 떠있는 구름이 된다. 시시각각 변화하는 구름의 움직임에 따라 섬과 섬이 연결된다. 구름을 은유적 매개로 한 <570: Clouds of Tongyeong>은 500 여개의 섬으로 둘러 쌓인 통영의 섬들을 시청각 경험으로 보여주는 오디오 비주얼 퍼포먼스 작품이다. 작곡가 신현필과 스트링 퀄텟으로 구성된 브리 앙상블(Vri Ensemble)은 가장 인간적이면서도 원초적인 울림의 ‘현악기’와 통영 현지에서 채집된 ‘사운드 스케이프’를 신디사이져 소리와 결합해 음악과 음향의 조화를 통한 울림을 만들어내는 한편 미디어아티스트 양숙현은 통영의 자연 경관으로부터 추출한 이미지를 조작 가능한 데이터로 변환하고 청각적 경험을 시각적으로 전이 시킨다. 수많은 섬들이 바다와 함께 만들어낸 경관과 누군가의 귀 기울임에 아랑곳하지 않는 오롯한 자연의 소리에 주목하며 관객에게 자연 친화적이면서도 가장 진보적 테크놀로지를 통해 immersive한 경험을 선사하고자 한다.

When the clouds come down, the island soon becomes a mountain peak, and when the hazy mist disappears, the island becomes a cloud floating on the sea again. The islands are connected by the ever-changing movement of clouds. <570: Clouds of Tongyong>, which uses clouds as a metaphor, is an audio visual performance work that shows the islands of Tongyeong surrounded by 500 islands through audiovisual experience. The Vri Ensemble, consisting of composer Shin Hyun-pil and string Quartet, combines the most human and primitive ringing “string instruments” and soundscapes collected in Tongyeong with synthesizer sounds, while media artist Sookyun Yang converts images extracted from Tongyeong’s natural scenery into manipulative data and visually transfers the auditory experience. Attention is paid to the scenery created by numerous islands with the sea and the sound of nature that does not care about someone’s ears, and we want to give the audience an immersive experience through nature-friendly and most progressive technology.
