국립아시아문화전당 문화 창조원은 고려대장경연구소와 협력하여 프로젝트 <21C 대장경>을 진행한다. 트랜스미디어랩(김태윤, 박얼, 양숙현, 윤지현)의 작품명 <피타카(PITAKA)>는 대장경을 새기는 로봇이다. 고려시대에 제작된 재조대장경의 탁본 이미지를 컴퓨터 좌표 데이터로 변환하여 산업용 로봇을 통해 물리적 가공이 가능하게 만든다. PITAKA는 로봇/기계라는 인식을 넘어 구도자로 의인화된 아이콘으로 판각 행위를 통해 미디어가 된다. PITAKA의 퍼포먼스는 새로운 형식의 장藏, Pitaka를 생산해 내고 이는 상징적 아우라로 존재하는 대장경이라는 역사적 유물을 또 다른 매체로 가공, 변화시킨다.

Asia Culture Complex worked with Research Institute of Korea Tripitaka to carry out the project <21th Tripitaka Koreana>. The name of Transmedialab is PITAKA, a robot that engraves the Buddha’s words. Transforming the tripitaka’s rubbing image produced in the Korea Dynasty into computer coordinate data, enabling physical processing through industrial robots. PITAKA is an icon personified as a pilgrim beyond the perception of a robot-machine and becomes a media outlet through engraving. PITAKA’s performance produces a new type of Pitaka, which processes and transforms historical artifacts that exist as symbolic aura into another medium.
