작품은 서구의 분석적 과학에 의해 오랫동안 가려져 온 동양적 세계관을 재조명하며, 인간을 우주 속에서 형성되고 지구에 뿌리내린 물질적 존재로 위치시킨다. 작가는 인공지능의 사변적 시선을 통해 인간을 인식하는 새로운 방식을 제안하며, 이를 통해 기존의 인식 능력을 넘어선 새로운 경험의 지평을 열고자 한다. 인간의 인지 능력을 초월하는 데이터 처리 과정에서 생성된 인공지능 이미지와 합성적 감각은 작가에 의해 “사변적 물질(speculative matter)”로 정의된다. 이는 비인간(Non-Human)과 인간(Human), 물질(Matter)과 데이터(Data), 그리고 우주(Cosmos) 간의 관계를 새롭게 이해할 것을 요청한다.

동시에 범용 대규모 언어 모델(LLM)을 사용하는 범용 인공지능(AGI) 시스템에서 동양 형이상학의 요소—사주명리학, 점성술, 일부 천문학적 개념—를 온전히 포괄하지 못하는 한계로부터 출발한다. 작가는 동양 천문학에서 영감을 얻은 의미 달력을 활용해 숫자적 표상 속에 숨겨진 하루하루의 물질적 의미를 추출한다. 이러한 관계들은 시로 해석되고, 다시 AI 이미지 생성을 위한 프롬프트로 전환된다. 비인간적 상상력에 의지하며, 이 작업은 조화를 중시하는 동양적 데이터 해석 전통을 탐구하는 동시에, 학문적 맥락에서 종종 미신으로 치부되어온 지식 체계의 의미를 재조명한다.

The work reconsiders the Eastern worldview that has long been overshadowed by Western analytical science, situating humanity as material beings shaped within the cosmic order and grounded on Earth. Through the speculative lens of artificial intelligence, it proposes an alternative way of perceiving the human—one that surpasses anthropocentric cognition and opens novel horizons of experience. The AI-generated images, produced through data processing beyond human capacity, and their synthetic sensibilities are defined by the artist as “speculative matter.” This formulation calls for a renewed understanding of the entangled relations between the Non-Human and the Human, Matter and Data, and the Cosmos itself.

At the same time, the work engages with Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), while reflecting on their inherent limitations in encompassing elements of Eastern metaphysics—such as the Four Pillars of Destiny (SaJu), astrology, and certain aspects of astronomy. Drawing on a “meaning calendar” inspired by Eastern astronomy, the project uncovers the material significance embedded in each day behind its numerical representation. These relationships are translated into poetry, which then serve as prompts for AI image generation. By leaning on the imagination of the non-human, the work explores Eastern traditions of data interpretation that emphasize harmony, while revalorizing forms of knowledge often dismissed as superstition in academic contexts.
