현대자동차그룹 이노베이션센터 제로원에서 지원하는 제로원데이 2023은 ’01 HABITAT’를 메인 테마로 미래 서식지에 대한 다양한 논의를 크리에이터 프로젝트를 통해 가시화한다. 이번 제로원데이는 New Territory, Meta Humanity, Hyper Connectivity, Sustainability, Future Mobility 5가지 주제를 포함하고 있다.

기술 환경의 가속화와 함께 드러난 비인간 존재는 인간에게 이전과 다른 차원의 공존과 생태적 논의를 요청한다. 근 미래에 대한 상상을 보여주는 <로봇 생태계의 외래종>은 “기술 생태계 내에서 비인간종(Species)의 다양성은 확보될 수 있는가?”라는 질문에서 시작한다. 양숙현은 인간 관점에서 로봇이 주로 의인화된 형태로 고착된다는 사실을 자각하고, 예술가가 상상하는 다양한 형태와 모습의 로봇을 외래종으로 정의한다. 크리에이터는 AI가 합성한 이미지를 영상으로 제작하고 이를 기초로 신체의 일부 공간을 공유하는 웨어러블 모듈을 제작한다. 로봇 생태계의 ‘돌연변이’이자 ‘외래종(Exotic species)’을 신체 일부에 부착하고 착용하는 경험을 통해, 비인간들과 인간이 서로 영향을 주고받는 위치에 있음을 환기시킨다. 외래종을 인지하는 감각적 행위를 통해 인간이 기술, 기계, 환경과 같은 비인간 행위자들 사이에 놓여있음을 보여주고자 한다.

양숙현은 동시대 기술 환경이 만들어낸 감각을 체화한 인간과 그 속에서 생산된 사물들의 유연한 관계를 실재적 감각과 연결하는 시도를 지속해왔다. 웨어러블, 퍼포먼스, 미디어 설치부터 데이터로 촉발되는 기술 생태계의 물질성(Physicality)의 발견하기 위해 비인간 객체, 시뮬레이션과 글리치(Glitch) 등으로 작업 중이다.

The non-human existence revealed with the acceleration of the technological environment asks humans for a different level of coexistence and ecological discussion than before. The project, Exotic Species in the Robot Ecosystem that shows imagination of the near future begins with the question, “Can non-human species diversity be secured within the technology ecosystem?” Sookyun Yang realizes that robots are mainly fixed in anthropomorphic forms from a human point of view, and defines robots of various figure and shapes imagined by artists as alien species. She produces images synthesized by AI as a video and makes wearable module units that share some spaces in the human body. Through the experience of attaching and wearing “mutants” and “exotic features” of the robot ecosystem, it reminds us that non-humans and humans are in a position to interact with each other. Through the sensory behavior of recognizing foreign species, it is intended to show that humans are placed among non-human actors such as technology, machinery, and environment.
